Miss Sweet Potato Pie Inc., the brainchild of Dianne Snowden Johnson, is a child-centered entertainment entity. In September of 1998 as Ms. Snowden Johnson was watching one of her favorite television shows, she was touched by the testimonials in regard to following your dream. Oprah mentioned that the first step to fulfilling your dream is to write it down. Diane's mind immediately went to her favorite scripture, Habakkuk 2:2-3, "And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables...for the vision is yet for an appointed time. but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it: because it will surely come..." Being obedient to the Holy Spirit, Dianne wrote her dreams on a sheet of paper and posted them on her refrigerator. She has already begun to market her character the list expanded her vision to become a million-dollar business, acquire a Miss Sweet Potato Pie mobile and produce a successful children's program
Dianne shared her ideas with her children - Apollo legend, poet, and dancer. Porshia Johnson and comedian, Pablo Johnson - who embraced the concept with love and support. Her parents, Hughie & Josephine Snowden, who have witnessed her clown-like behavior since she was a child, provided encouragement. They were especially pleased with the name chosen for her character - Miss Sweet Potato Pie - which is a tribute to Dianne's paternal grandmother whose nickname was "Sweet" and her maternal grandmother who taught her to make Sweet Potato Pies.
Anyone who knows Dianne will tell you two things - she has a God-given talent to make people laugh and she loves children. Through a magical character name Miss Sweet Potato Pie, she brings these qualities to life. Miss Sweet Potato Pie travels throughout the community entertaining children with face painting, storytelling, sing-a-longs, activities, sculpting balloons, and original skits with the Soul Food Babies.
